Hmmm...

The Mexican government is taking a stand against the objectification of women by running commercials that star blow-up sex dolls.

The ad features a number of dolls in workplaces that are leered at and grabbed by a number of men. Then a voice-over says, "No woman should be treated like an object. Sexual harassment is degrading and it's a crime.”

Interesting. So do I not like the ad because 1) President Vicente Fox trivializes the murders of over 400 women in Ciudad Juarez as well as recently referred to women as “washing machines with two legs,” or 2) inflatable sex dolls scare the bejesus out of me?

Thoughts?

If this is a serious campaign against sexual harassment, why not have ads that have actual women in them? The last thing these ads will do is make those men who share Fox's idiotic attitude take stock. Isn't this a bit like running ads against animal cruelty that use stuffed animals?

i think it's great that there are any ads at all, though i do agree it's tres creepy.

i think the last ad about sexual harassment i remember seeing was this commercial a million years ago where a woman's boss was saying nasty things to her about her clothes and ass and stuff and with every comment she started shrinking smaller and smaller. it was strange.

I like the ads. They illustrate the creepiness of sexual harassment. Sort of like all of the South Dakota and coathanger ads we've been seeing lately.

I don't think anyone buys those dolls for actual sexual activity. IMO they are all bought as gag gifts. Anyone know different?

In case of 2), I may yet see this on the karaoke machine:

Rubber Doll, by Lords Of Acid

This is the story of the fuckdoll from hell!
You want sex with a rubber doll
Baby I din't agree with that at all
Sexbomb Annie, that's her name
With her you like to play your dirty little games
Her mouth wide open, always ready for more
Doesn't close her legs, that inflatable whore
It's a love bizar with that rubber bitch
Don't make me compete with that plastic witch

You can never use me for your fantasy
MÚnage à trois with my enemy
Better take her with you on Thanksgiving day
So she can meet your folks in her nÚgligeÚ
You take her out for dinner so your friends can see
And now everybody's pointing fingers at me
You even take her shopping and on a double date
She's always quiet and she never complains

Baby, it's her or me - my rubber enemy
Your special loverdoll - I'll nail her to the wall
I made up my mind, it's gotta stop
A stab of a needle's gonna make her go POP
That will be the end of your love affair
With Sexbomb Annie and her plastic derri¶re
Death to the doll

It's reminiscent of this image by the Poppy Project. It fits their campaign a lot better though.
