I just saw this advert and all I caught was, "Be a man, take back the shower." I thought it was funny. It is interesting (and predictable) how men are now being included in the marketing to get cleaner, prettier, younger looking etc. Almost every line of bath/beauty product now has a mens line.
So I looked it up and it is Dial's new ad campaign to "Take Back the Shower." I shudder to think that this is a reference to "Take Back the Night." The ad goes on to say, "Washcloth? We don't need no stinking wash cloth." Nor do they need proper grammer. But anyway.
Is this gender equity? No. It is capitalism finding more things to market, more flaws to find and more products to fix it. And this ad is attempting to tap into "masculinity" to sell a bath product. Don't fall for this boyz.
I don't think men should "take back the shower," I think they should just admit they always use all the "girly" products in the shower.

Huh? Did you not catch the reference? "Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges." Treasure of the Sierra Madre, a Bogart film from 1948. Everybody's heard some version of that line even if they don't know what movie it's from.
that's ridiculous advertising. it looks like drain cleaner packaging. i would never let that crap near my skin.
however, i gotta disagree with you on one thing... i think it's great that men are getting some beauty care products designed for them. i mean, shoot, guys don't get any encouragement to really care for themselves and i think it's wonderful that men are having more runways shows, more products, etc... hopefully, it'll extend into other areas as well (like dope, affordable clothes and not using soap that looks like drain cleaner)...
maybe it's just iya's influence on me, but i'm kinda stoked at the direction (if not the packaging) this is taking...
Somehow this ad just doesn't bug me as much as the new AXE ads that are all over NYC right now. I first noticed it in the subway, but I happened to catch another while watching Star Trek the other day (on Spike TV ... *sigh*). Anyway, they feature the "order of the serpentine" helping men wash away the shame of hookups they regret. The one I saw featured a wimpy guy sorry he'd hooked up with a female body builder. It's bad on a lot of levels. The campaign is http://www.orderoftheserpentine.com/.
Bev-The AXE ads are ridiculous and have been for a while. I will check that one out.
Puckalish-from what I can remember, this is DEFINITELY Iya's influence on your once hippy raver self (
Whatever it takes for me to be able to clean the shower and not question my sexuality. Ok - now I need to go rev my engine.
Wow, this is dumb as "hand tools for women".
As far as stupid slogans like "take back the shower",(what, by adding more crap to it?) that pales next to "It's all about the O"
