Alaskan girl first to win state wrestling title over boys
Michaela Hutchison of Alaska’s Skyview High School is the first girl in the country to win a state wrestling title competing against boys. Kudos!
Amid chants of "C'mon, Michaela" and "Girl power," Hutchison earned a 1-0 victory Saturday over Colony High School's Aaron Boss. She scored an escape with 16 seconds left to beat Boss for the second time in two weeks. Family and friends mobbed Hutchison as she walked away from the mat with a bloody nose, while the crowd rose in a standing ovation.
Awesome.

103 lb weight class? My god, that is scary. I can only imagine the poor dude and perhaps her have not hit puberty yet and otherwize late bloomers. Regardless id hate to see the ribbing he took.
She's wrestling high school boys, which includes seniors. She had 33 pins for the season. Where do they find men small enough for the 103 lb class? Well, wrestlers in competition shape "suck weight" to frighteningly low bodyfat and hydration levels. Off season, they walk around heavier. These are still very small guys, but not abnormal.
How did she get so good? She's the third state champ in her family. Maybe it's genetics, but I think it's more likely that she has a constant source of advice, experience, inspiration and practice available to her. She was raised wrestling, and her skill level is simply much higher than the men in her weight class.
What really got my attention is that she's only a sophomore. She's got another two years of eligibility. 2008 Olympics? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
"How did she get so good?" - She could just be a badass. I hear that after she beat Boss, she followed him out of the gym and took his lunch money ;)
Just kidding with that last post. There is no shame in losing to someone who went 45-4. He must take enough abuse without random internet commentors piling on.
