Sexual Assault in the Military. Again.

Check out yesterday's article in The Washington Post on sexual assault in the military. The article highlights the Miles Foundation, an *awesome* non-profit that provides support to victims of violence within the military. According to the Miles Foundation, only about one third of the 307 sexual assaults that were reported to them have received official documentation. Well, thanks to the Miles Foundation at least these soldiers feel like they have someone to tell without fear of retribution.

In January, the Pentagon pledged to start taking sexual assault in the military more seriously. Let's just say I'm not holding my breath...

Let's be honest about why most women join the army; because there are very few other jobs. Most join as a route to college. This is something which Americans should be ashamed of.
You should not be surprised about the Army's secrecy regarding sexual assault. All former POW's are pressured to sign NDAs (Non Disclosure Agreements). I have read little criticism of this practice in feminist circles.
Jessica Lynch has insinuated in a recent interview that the Pentagon/CIA/Army are witholding information from her, and her father rubbished the Pentagon bullshit "car crash" explanation for her injuries (you have to be thick or gullible to believe that).

Separate male and female regiments would solve the the problem 100%. If I were a feminist, I would prefer women-only divisions, with female names and codes, like "34th Valkyries" rather than the macho culture of the old male divisions.

PS: Let's be honest, women work much better with other women.
No woman would want to serve her country surrounded by a bunch of sex-starved, arrogant and stupid men (and that pretty much describes 95% of the American male population).

And we all know that male Drill Sergeants will give women preferrential treatment, as being tough on a woman goes against how men are taught to behave. Let's have women soldiers TRAINED by women and COMMANDED by WOMEN!
No woman should have serve under a crappy man!

All woman units???? Why not go back to having all black units? What about an all woman submarine?

You people have got to think before you post.
Have you ever served in the military?

There is definitly a huge problem with sexual assault but its being fixed. Woman have only been allowed in the military since the 1980's. the average retirement of senior officers is 30 years. After 1 or 2 generations of leadership most of the problems with having a coed military will be completely solved.

I imagine men get assaulted as well, sexually and otherwise. So single-sex units, or even an entirely single-sex military, wouldn't solve all problems. In fact, if it was shown that most of the abusers were men (and I don't know this is true, but I'm guessing so), wouldn't it make more sense to keep *men* out of the military, rather than women. I mean, certainly the military isn't meant to be all peaceful and gentle, but the aggression is supposed to be directed towards the "enemy", right, not towards your comrades? That seems only detrimental to success.

Women in combat units? Let's say infantry for example.

What . A. Nightmare.

This requires extreme physical exertion, strength, and endurance.

Your opponent is going to be a male. Right there the woman is already at a disadvantage physically.
It will be of absolutely no help, in any possible way, when engaged in hand-to-hand combat to yell out " Yooou're hurrrting mee ! Stop it! This is sexist ".

Let alone packing ammunition or moving to aid / drag wounded comrades from the battlefield. How well supported are the male soldiers going to feel
realizing this.

Oh, and if it's say in the Middle East combat, you'll just make the enemy fight harder realizing they're fighting women. Some of the highest offensive casualties occur in cases where the enemy fights to last man. See any motivation for that here?

The solution to women wanting to be in infantry / direct combat units? Watching the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan .. or the series Band of Brothers.

One shouldn't get to cherry pick when it comes to equality.

PS -- why was my original post deleted?

I note your report criticises the British Royal Air Force. It's well known that the UK has soldiers who are vastly more inteligent than the their American counterparts. Yet even the much revered (by US women) English gentleman misbehaves.

Everyone in Britain thinks American soldiers are rubbish (British politicians say this time and again, emphasising the superiority of the British soldier).
UK troops HATE US soldiers, male or female. The Brits regard them as arrogant, stupid, wimpish and naive.

The American Army is perceived as incompetent because it trains it's troops to a laughably low standard.

A 4-year old could complete Basic Training.

Do you speak from experience, Arbiter?

I doubt it.

I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about, you are just mouthing off.

I've served in Britian, with the US Navy, and I assure you, the Brits and Americans work very well together and have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. Also, I lived in a mixed neighborhood, Brits/Americans in Norfolk Virginia for 4 years with many of the Brits who work at NATO and at the The Armed Forces Staff College. They love America, and truly enjoy working side by side with Americans. Now this is just personal experience, mind you. Do you have any articles or quotes to back up your B.S. statements?

By the way, passing Basic Training is an attitude thing, and I don't think you could pass basic training.
