Feminists are whores

At least, that’s what Monique Stuart seems to think. The popularity of Sex and the City, the rise of sex columns in student newspapers and the performance of The Vagina Monologues on college campuses are all marks of what Stuart calls “slut feminism.”

Apparently talking about sex and vaginas will lead to a scourge of nationwide leg-spreading.

Stuart’s argument is basically that sex is bad bad bad and women who have--or even talk about--sex are immoral sluts.

...In Columbia University's sex column, "Sexplorations," Miriam Datskosky explains why the all-too-common "walk of shame" shouldn't be shameful at all. She argues that, men and women should be able to go out and have sex whenever and with whoever they like, and when walking home the next morning -- wearing the same clothes from the night before, their make-up smeared and their hair a mess -- they shouldn't be judged: "It is not up to a random stranger to make you feel ashamed." Moral relativism and the sexual revolution had a baby, and boy is it ugly.

Because as everyone knows, the only appropriate post-sex responses are guilt and shame.

But don’t worry, ladies--Stuart has a cure for the disease of a lustful mind:

...With the help of organizations like the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute, [students] can bring conservative women leaders, such as Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter or Phyllis Schlafly, to their schools to challenge this type of thinking.

Predictably, Stuart works for the the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute--the org that brought you the Great American Conservative Women calendar. (Even better is Stuart’s “activist” history.)

What particularly pisses me off about the piece is Stuart’s holier-than-thou attitude: “Sexual freedom has turned into sexual obsession. Perversion and promiscuity are applauded, morality and chastity condemned.” So having sex is immoral, but calling women “sluts” is just dandy. With a moral barometer like that, I think I’m better off being a slutty feminist.

Sometimes, I get called a slut. I start to defend myself, but then I realize that by their definition, I probably am. I'm married, have never had a non-monogamous relationship (even people I was only sleeping with I was sleeping with exclusively), and generally think I'm pretty honest in relationships. But I did have a fair amount of premarital sex, I lost my virginity in my teens, and I use contraception and don't mind talking about sex in front of other people. It's all treated me well, and I wouldn't try and stop another woman from doing the same thing. If this is the kind of thing that makes me slutty, that's fine. After all, slut is a relative term used to describe women you don't like. It would be nice if conservatives who fear feminism would realize that their definition of "moral" doesn't apply to most people, so it's about time to stop trying to hurt womens' feelings by insinuating they have sex when we're all pretty happy with the fact that we get to control our sex lives and our bodies.

gender-neutral "sleaze feminism" might have been better. some things that might be called feminism (like sex in the city) has certainly taken a turn for the adam carolla. that's fine, if it's your style. but a lot of people are put off by folks who bang people they don't even like very much, whether they're men or women.

I don't think men are given any trouble for fucking people they don't even like. People are impressed that they are able to stick to the point(no pun intended).

Jami - I'm glad you mentioned Carolla. Sex and the City was about mature, grown up women having sex. You can argue that it influenced teen girls who watched it, but I don't remember it explicitly promoting teens as sex objects. The last time I watched Carolla's show, he was essentially saying that grown men should fantasize about and consider teen girls as sex objects (and he wasn't talking about 19 year olds). I know it is Comedy Central, but he was saying it in that "this is what we honestly think" mode. Unforutnately, too often he is right (maybe partly because idiots like him keep telling us that).

yellow - lost your virginity as a teen and had premarital sex? looks like it is straight to hell for you.

here's what i honestly don't get: why is sex sleazy? why is taking about sex and sexuality NOT a good thing? when did people forget that sex is frigging awesome?

The best conservative hypocracy on display; bringing their sexed-up blonde poster girl, Ann Coulter, to lecture and hector about the evils of sex. The mental gymnastics it takes to want a cultural standard of virginal and chaste, yet also sexualized and dolled-up women must take a lot of effort to achieve day after day.

If I ever had a daughter, and she looked to Michelle Malkin as a moral leader, I would puke.

As the mother of a 9-year-old girl, I wholly support talking about vaginas and sex. Actually, the term vulva would be more accurate, I believe, when referring to the whole of the female genitalia, and includes the vagina, labia, clitoris, et al. Slut feminism has a lovely ring to it. It's kinda funny, really. Am I supposed to be offended? It's unfortunate that Monique Stuart is so freaked out by her vulva. Has anyone told her that someday it may actually get a bit, well, moist? So count me as Another Mom for Vulvas.

Dear Liberal Femininists

You all obviously believe that sex is just a cheap act that has nothing to do with love or making a committed relationships. Monique is not arguing that all feminists are whores. She's arguing against making sex the most definitive and important part of being woman. I mean, forget if you went to Yale, forget if you're the president of Chrysler, if you're a woman and haven't fucked around, you're just not valuable. An experienced woman sucking up our wealthfare system has more value than you!
It seems to me that you are all virgin phobes. You just don't get that not all women like be treated as FUCK TOYS. Some of us want wait to have sex. We want to go to college, get a career, fall in love with the love our lives and make LOVE not FUCKS!
I'm so sick of immature, insecure smuts like you making fun of virgins and people who don't have sex. Whatever happened to "its my body, its my choice, I have the write to do whatever I want with my body?" I guess that doesn't count for "I have the choice to decided what I DON'T want to have done with my body". Because I don't want to become a "fuck toy", people look down on me and discriminate against me. So much for sexual freedom. Now the only thing that most guys value about me is my CUNT. I dated a guy once who would ask how my CUNT was doing before asking how I was doing. It was as if my CUNT was separate from my body. I've been sexually harrassed and assaulted by men. Its all because you guys continue to promote this way of thinking: that women are FUCK TOYS and nothing better!
Oh and yes, being a virgin doesn't make you a vulva phobe. ITS ABOUT RESPECTING YOUR BODY! I've explored every part of my body and respect every part of it.

Well, good for you, IANAFT. I respect your decision to do whatever you want with your body. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that's the point that was being made. We all, as human beings, have the right to make our own choices regarding our own bodies. All I want is to do whatever I want with mine and not be labeled an "immature, insecure smut." Oh, and I don't give a rat's ass if some guy thinks I'm nothing but a cunt, because any man who thinks that way isn't going to get any of mine.

If you are going around speaking the way you are which is very freely and open about sex as well as living licenciously, I would not contaminate myself by having you come into contact with me. You probably have a STD. All this stuff about you can do what you want with your body is seen as selfish. If Feminists want to do something with their body, they should go and get a man's job like a construction worker..something dangerous. Right now, you big mouth sex-obsessed Feminists just keep cleverly seeking out guys who have made it financially while ignoring the ones who haven't and hording all the cozy air-conditioning jobs and screaming to the government that you are not paid as much as men. All the while forcing your uninvited rants about your private parts on the largely uniterested general public. You really flaunt your insanity, stupidiy, and selfishness beyond points where reasonable men should find you in any way attractive.
