Ok, it's time for me to fully admit that i am an npr nerd. Yeah, so, anyway, today on npr they had a segment where people phoned in and read a one-minute quote that spoke to the spirit of social justice inspired by MLK. I thought it might be cool to see folks do that here if they feel like it. Here's mine:
"Feminist politics is losing momentum because feminist movement has lost clear definitions. We have those definitions. Let's claim them. Let's share them. Let's start over. Let's have t-shirts and bumper stickers and postcards and hip-hop music, television and radio commercials, ads everywhere and billboards, and all manner of printed material that tells the world about feminism. We can share the simple yet powerful message that feminism is a movement to end sexist oppression. Let's start there. Let the movement begin again."
- bell hooks, feminism is for everybody (2000)
Since he provided one of my all-time favorite quotable phrases, I'm gonna stick with MLK:
"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
Unfortunatley, I think MLK would be rolling over in his grave if he knew about the present ongoings in American society.
