14 year-old Jessica Bradley, who was told to leave school after kissing another female student at a sleepover party, has withdrawn her lawsuit against Covenant Christian Academy. The reason why she dropped the suit is pretty depressing:
"She admitted to a sexual relationship with another student," Moffett explains. "That is a violation of school rules that are in writing, that are distributed to students and their parents, and which students and parents sign in agreement to abide by."The attorney says those rules prohibiting sexual immorality apply both on and off campus. "It's stated very clearly that [violating those rules] can result in expulsion," he adds.
Unbelievable. So if you can’t get her out for being a lesbian, you’ll boot her for being a “slut?”
Obviously I’m pretty disgusted by this, but mostly I’m just really sad for Bradley. What kind of world do we live in where kids are humiliated and ostracized in order to promote an already-hateful agenda?
Sexual immorality? Please. What’s more immoral--being a kid who experiments with sex or being an adult spewing hate and discrimination?

I can understand why Jessica wouldn't want to go through the embarrassment of having her private life spewed all out for public viewing, as a lawsuit would do, but I hate that she let this go. This case is is a RIDICULOUS intrusion of someone else's morality into a child's private life. She didn't floss someone's tonsils in the hallway in front of the entire school, did she? (And even then, it's not grounds for being kicked out, in IMHO.) It's none of their business. This infuriates me.
If this was a public funded school i would agree that this is insane. however it sounds like a private religious school that parents choose to send children too. Since this school represents a voluntary submission to this creed, and not one forced on anyone, who cares?
Private schools do have the right to be discriminatory, however hateful it may be. This shouldn't be such a surprise considering that the real conservative Christian agenda is to punish sluts.

She didn't get kicked out for being a slut. She got kicked out for having "a sexual relationship with another student". Her actions were against the rules of the school, and the punishment for such actions had been clearly laid out in a document the student and her parents signed. The only real injustice here is that the school had to waste money on a lawyer to defend against this frivolous lawsuit ($1,000,000.00 for getting caught breaking the rules?!?). Please do not confuse an attempted million dollar money grab with a feminist statement.
- Before you go after me for this opinion I should mention that I do not agree with the school’s policy, just their right as a private institution to enforce it.
Hopefully my post above was not too harsh, I just get annoyed easily by our overly litigious society.
I am wondering if the student she had the sexual relationship WITH was also expelled. I guess he/she should have been - assuming he/she signed the same document she did. Sorry for the clunky writing, but the blurb does not specify the gender of the other kid.
If it is a private school they have the right to enforce any behaviour code they want.
What is interesting to me, is the relationship between the enforced behavior codes in private schools and the college admission rates, and the average income later on in life.
It suggests that if you live by a certain moral code, you will be more successful(by most accepted measurements of success).
mmm... its complicated... but leave the school its not a solution...
