Cries of despair echo though Wall Street

The New York Stock Exchange and National Association of Securities Dealers announced yesterday a proposal for “principle-based standards that address the obligations of securities firms and individual brokers in connection with business entertainment.” Translation: no more expensing your lap dances, boys.

From the New York Post (registration required):

"Bankers and stock brokers make up a large part of our clientele," said Lonnie Hanover, spokesman for the Scores gentleman's club, which operates New York's two largest adult entertainment establishments. "If you try to curtail their visits to Scores, then the world might as well come to an end."

Glad to see no one is being overly-dramatic about the decision. Sheesh.

A good reminder to read Tales from the Boom Boom Room.

It is obvious to me that htis is merely a ploy by right wing anti sex christian nuts to demonize adult entertainment. the fact is, going to a club can be a business expense, just like any other. If you are going with clients, or potential clients, for the purposes of discussing business, why not. For some reason brokers or bankers are supposed to have some moral problem with this.. hey? well, not all find it immoral and share the far right view of viewing a naked body. Many have found that a sales presentation is more effective after a good lap dance. that is reality, not bs.

it is just religion once again working its way into the public sphere. This kind of religious biggotry Is part of the problem not the solution.

I really doubt this is a religious thing. I have a feeling this is more a response to sexual harassment accusations (the Dedsner Bank accusation specifically mentions strip club visits). The industry probably feels it necesary to at least make it look like it is trying to end this practice in order to protect itself from further harassment settlements. It is funny, though, how often feminist and religious guidelines end up being the same (with different reasoning behind these guidelines, of course).
