"Fist Girl" and other classy ads
Not so long ago, Feministing covered a disturbing Hardee's commercial that featured a young woman stuffing a shit load of straws in her mouth in a creepy sexual way. (As if there's another way to stuff straws in your mouth...)
I never would have guessed that the straw commercial wasn't the only mouth-stuffing ad that the marketing geniuses at Hardee's came up with. This recent Slate article dissects the scary porn connotations behind the Hardee's "Fist-Girl" commerical (yes, it's called that) and others. Read it and weep. And take your hand out of your mouth.
I agree with you, here. The Hardee's commercials are out of line.
I don't think it will work comparing a woman eating a hamburger to one sucking cock or fisting or whatever. You bite the hamburger. Men don't want to think about that, I'm guessing.

I've seen the fist girl commercial and it is incredibly weird and disturbing. Definitely borderline porn. And note how the guardians of media morality don't seem to be bothered. It's not like it's Baby Stewie's animated ass or anything offensive...grrrrr....

The Radical Right doesn't mind sexual innuendo so long as it is used to sell something else. If Janet Jackson's wardrobe had "malfunctioned" in, say, a beer commercial - I doubt anyone would have cared.
I have to confess that her skill is impressive. I just tried to put my fist in my mouth, because I'm 2 years old, and failed miserably.
My best friend from college and former roommate can put her fist in her mouth. Guys loved it, I mean LOVED it and were fascinated in a weirdly sexual way. Bizarre.

You are probably right about that.
And if anybody thinks there isn't something sexist/misogynistic going on here, check out the male version of the straw ad--it's quite different, though the guy is also shoving straws in his mouth...it's played for comic effect, rather than some sort of seductiveness. Ech.
I would tend to agree with Amanda about the usefulness of the ads...though I must admit I just don't 'get' what makes a lot of advertising work, anyway.
