Oh give me a freaking break. What is your problem with Kristof? He has brought much needed attention to the issue. Should he have refrained from helping any of these women? I'm glad at least one woman is better off for his efforts.
By buying a woman out of sex slavery he gave more money to the pimps which will be loaned to other families whose daughters will be forced into bonded labour in brothels.
Yes, Kristof is self-congratulatory and bumptious. But he is trying to help and he is one of the few male voices who follow issues of third world women with any consistency. What I don't get is how you can simultaneously attack him while promoting voluntary sex work as in your post about the VV article. surely you don't think those cambodian girls are exercising their 'agency"?
actually the post on the voice is vanessa's, not mine. but you're right, i don't have a problem with voluntary sex work.
i don't think that my criticism of kristof is related to the politics of sex work as much as it is about his condescending attitude that reeks of sexism masked as “trying to help.”
clearly it’s a good thing that attention is paid to third world women’s issues, but I don’t know how helpful kristof’s patronizing attitude is.
Therefore as differently we receive instead of creative lifting only pressure removal just as employment by love with the favourite person inspire and charge energy whereas casual sex or masturbation is left only by a devastation and powerlessness.

YAY KRISTOF!!!!!
Glad I wasn't the only one appalled by that. Holy hell.

Well, Katha-- very often, I have noticed that coherence and even-handedness are not among the traits exhibited here.
Geez -- come on people, he helped this girl, and for that he gets criticized. Pathetic.
